“McCree!” Gabe shouts across the sand, hands curled around the lifeguard towers rails, “Stop flirting with the beachers and get back to your post!”

Jesse’s shoulders jump and hunch in. The handsome Asian fellow he’s making eyes at covers a grin with his tattooed hand. Jesse tips his straw hat at him and spins on his heels, eyes narrowed at his boss.

Gabe snorts, dropping down to his forearms as McCree saunters up.

“I was just having a friendly conversation.” Jesse frowns.

“Which will lead to you ditching your post.” Gabe states, he flicks his finger to the lifeguard chair between the towers, “If I catch you doing anything other than rescuing or sitting, I’m docking your pay for the rest of the summer.”

Jesse tips his head back with a groan and gives a sloppy salute.

Gabe watches him go and doesn’t stop until Jesse’s ass meets the chair. The cute asian guy walks over with a beach towel and an umbrella, water bottle tucked under his arm. Jesse grins, body practically glowing. He shoots a nervous glance Gabriel’s way.

Gabe lets it slide, gives him the standard ‘I’m watching you’ hand motion, and heads back into the guard towers fan-cooled room. He settles down in his chair to make the schedule for next week, sign the forms for new suits and rescue floats. He glances up every once in awhile to make sure the beach is not on fire or swallowed by a tidal wave, then goes right back to work.

Half-past two Fareeha shows up, dressed in her red uniform suit and ready to relieve him of his post for a much needed break.

She thumb tacks the new schedule to the coark board and shooes him out of the tower, “Go grab a burger.” She winks, “Jack’s working today.”
