Hello! Not a native German speaker, but I’ve taken four years of the language and I agree lol- German flirting is so weird and awkward, but some of the pet names are pure gold, because it’s literally stuff like ‘small bear’ or ‘my treasure’ and it’s super cute. Only downside is that the words are super long. But yeah, whenever I see it in fanfiction or in writing i’m like please stop it sounds so corny and forced.

yeah the pet names are the bomb. they can get cringey but that happens in every language.

it’s also one of the things I miss in English. Just those diminutives. With the soft ‘ch’

what I also miss. Really fucking miss is a good word in English for Kraulen.

Kraulen is basically what you do to a cat, but not rubbing your flat palm along her head/back, but just moving your fingertips across her scalp in kind of a scritching/massaging motion.

scritching comes kinda close but it’s not perfect.

Kraulen is where it’s fucking at, ya’ll.
