I see McCree more as a handy guy (is that the word?) than a linguistics crack. Like he’ll try everything you can do with hands. Maybe even tried sewing/crocheting/knitting under Gabriel?
He probably only knows very basic Japanese words like most people. Hanzo likes how the words sound coming from him; they’re not pronounced correctly but it is endearing to him in a way it is always endearing when you hear heavily accented language
